Wednesday 1 August 2018 saw competitors from across the region descend on the streets of Huncote, Narborough and Enderby to contest the 2018 Joy Cann Memorial 5 mile race.
This year’s event was the second consecutive year that David Robinson Estates have provided sponsorship and once again saw Managing Director, David Robinson took part in the race. The race had 546 competitors completing the race and was won by Frank Baddick (Newham & Essex Beadles AC) in a time of 25min 23 seconds, second place went to Danny Hallam (Wreake & Soar Valley) 25 mins 37 seconds and third place went to Edward Highton (Owls AC) in a time of 26 min 02 seconds.
David Robinson, Managing Director, said: “It’s a real privilege to be able to be a part of such a fantastic event. Everyone involved in the preparation and delivery of the race deserves huge credit as everything was meticulous and ensured that the event went off without a hitch.
“This years’ race was extra special in that we were celebrating the 25th anniversary of this prestigious event and all the runners, marshals and supporters helped make the 2018 edition of the race one to remember. It was also great to hear that planning has already started for the next official club run, the notorious Huncote Hash X-Country which draws competitors far and wide.
“In terms of my own performance, I completed the race in a time of 32 minutes and 54 seconds, which I was over the moon with as I managed to beat my previous course record by nearly 2 minutes!
“It’s also crucial to thank Huncote Harriers for the opportunity to sponsor such a well organised event, which will see a large amount of money donated to local charities and good causes.”
